I would like to see one of those rear tires in person as to understand their true size. They look incredibly huge in photos!

    Default tire size

The rears were a normal size rear as any other car in the class, it was the fronts that were incrediblily small!!!!

I understand that the proportions make them look larger. Even so, I'd like to see a rear in person. I can't help but feel like the rears are much larger than the current tires.

On the Indy cars, I believe the designer was Roman Slovinsky or something. Very unusual, very fast !

The rears were the same as other F1 cars running that year. When I ran a March in F-5000 I had rears that were similar, 13" x 17" wide. There is alot of sidewall which makes the tire look huge. The 15" diameter wheels that came out later, had roughly the same tire circumference but alot less sidewall. The designer of the Eagle was Roman Slobodynsky, who also designed the Lightning after he left AAR.

The pics of the SuperVees cracked me up. Without rear wings they remind me of Manx cats...no tails.

I'll have to dig up and post some snaps I have of Chip Ganassi in his SuperVee. I doubt he could fit in one today.

And here's one of the P34 at Long Beach. And no, I didn't do anything to it to make it look so small compared to the concrete wall.
