I think they need a new PR person.
Do you have a tire mounting machine? If not, how much is M&B?
This is not a spec tire. Your entire premise is wrong, therefore your conclusion is wrong. All the SCCA really needs to do is allow the wider wheel as an alternate part. The regions can then decide...
I don't see why a contract is necessary to allow an alternative part.
What I think is crazy is that contention that the CRB OK'd dry sumps in the first place without any data or even a request from the class. There has to be more to the story.
Not so sure about that.
I doubt there's ever been a class that hasn't had this same argument/debate. But if you don't want to be in a position of having to compete against people who will go to extreme lengths of effort and...
Badass looking car, but I thought this thread was going to be about the Michigan State game.
It's obvious Harding has never seen a motorcycle race at Daytona (they've only been racing there for 50 years after all). Everything we saw in the FV race has been played out hundreds of times on the...
Doesn't get much closer than that. Classic Daytona race!
Or you can just know how to work the draft at Daytona.
I think Brian should call his car The Phantom.
Anybody have an approximate body count on engines this week?
Which is what happened at Road America a few years ago. It may be harder to repeat at Daytona, but it will be interesting to watch on Sunday either way.
History is filled with guys who have tried to win by leading out of the bus stop on the last lap. It works maybe one in 10 times. The classic winning move is the slingshot pass from 3-4 back coming...
Should be a great race. I'll bet Mike V.'s strategy will be to try to break away solo and open a gap, but at Daytona it's tough to keep the drafting packs at bay behind you no matter how much they...
I guess it comes down to the interpretation of "erratic behavior." If a FV all of a sudden going 5 mph faster and passing another car is "erratic" then both conditions would be present. ;)
I'm curious what the bolded words mean in this context. Let's say on the final lap a car is bump drafted past another resulting in a change of final position, is that legal?
Let's hope nobody screws up and leaves the steward holding a copy of the Supps in one hand and his ass in the other.
I think somebody is pulling your leg. Read the Supps:
5.13 Bump Drafting: All on track body contact (including contact during drafting) that causes a car to act erratically and results in a change...
In 2018, the championship is going to pay out 100 grand to the winner, so there's your annual operating budget right there. Winner races for free! ;)
It would be nice to avoid any potential for conflict by making it a legal alternate, but the best way to build critical mass is to just get people to come out and run them.
Given the...

The SCCA process is ridiculous, but it is the best reason why the effort should be made for an alternate wheel and tire package, not a spec tire.
An alternate wheel and tire should be approved as a package to avoid the issue of allowing a larger wheel and then having people trying to run larger slicks on them.
If you contact Jim at Veetech, he might have some records of your engine, at least from the last time it passed through his shop. Of course there's no guarantee it hasn't been gone through since then.
I think Brian's "contacts" are the voices in his head.
Michael, I'm curious as to what you consider to be the hidden costs?
^^^ This could be a record for the most posts before FST was brought up in a FV spec tire thread.
By your logic, when there is one racer left remaining in FV, the class will have achieved the perfect ruleset.
I'm not speculating why they left and it really doesn't matter why. The fact is that they have left the class in droves, so your argument that FV competitors have supported all the rules changes over...
If you compare the participation numbers today to where they were 10 or 20 years ago, it's pretty clear that most FV competitors have spoken with their money by keeping it in their pocket or spending...
Trying to implement a national spec radial tire is a losing battle. Hoosier has more clout with the SCCA than the entire FV class combined and that relationship will dictate the outcome of any action...
I don't see how shaving the treads give you more rubber on the road unless you shave them completely off down to the carcass of the tire. Otherwise all you are doing is making them shorter and...
That's not why tires are usually shaved. The reason certain DOT R compound tires (like the Toyo RA1s that were actually molded in such a way that they were intended to be shaved for dry use to about...
While it would be nice to make it official, I'm not sure it's even necessary in the short term. Just do it. If a bunch of people showed up and ran them, would anybody protest? What kind of jerk would...
Pursuing a spec tire is a waste of time. What proponents of the Falken should be doing is pushing for an alternate tire in SCCA. If the Falken or similar street radial was allowed nationally, it...
The groups taking matters into their own hands by adopting a spec tire are on the right track. Waiting for the SCCA to act is a folly. Half the people racing FV today will be retired before the SCCA...
I wedged a jackstand under the tire as a wheel chock and used a 250 ft/lb torque wrench. Never had an issue with the axle nuts loosening.
I've often thought it would be cool to try to run a Vee at Bonneville, but the challenge is that the speed records for the streamliner classes that the cars would fit into are crazy fast, even for...
That's a good trick. I had mine on that side of the system but I could never get a sample to flow, so I moved it to between the pump and carb.
I guess anyone posting video evidence is worried about getting sanctioned! :D
It's pretty common with Spec Miatas too, and I've seen cars with "No bumping" lettered on the rear bumper.
I didn't realize it was losing so much money per year, but I guess that shouldn't really come as any surprise. There is really no escaping the fact that the best way to make a small fortune in racing...
The analog tach bolted to the steering wheel is an interesting approach...never seen that before!
Gatorade bottle have always worked well for me. I'm not sure what kind of plastic they use, but it lasts forever and the bottles are very strong.
BTW, why are people talking about cooling systems...
I drilled two small holes and pop-riveted a short sheetmetal bracket to the outside edge of the brake drum on mine. Attach a threaded magnet to the other end of the bracket and align to the pickup...
The problem is that there are enough other groups to race with that if the SCCA did that, the odds are greater those drivers would just leave and reduce the number of members and entries, not sell...
Good question. The only logical reason I can come up with is its lack of National class status. A lot has changed with the SCCA's event structure in recent years, but not being eligible for Majors or...
