There's no room to slow down FB without getting involved in the FC's that are 7 seconds back, but you're not too close to FA that is 2 seconds ahead?

And to add to that, the JDR certainly looked innovative, but after seeing it on speedcast today, it's looking pretty sexy too!
Could it be that with the water temp so low, you're just not getting much pressure? Perhaps it heats up enough in the pits to build pressure, then when you get good airflow, you cool down enough for...
I'd call your tire supplier. They should be able to tell you the hot pressures, which are what matter, and they should also be able to give you an idea of where to start on the camber.
Wow, springs are open now? That seems like a big change. The car seems way over-sprung, but now you'll need to bring a box of springs to the track?
No, it's a coil spring. If you look at the links going forward from rockers, 2 go to the anti-roll bar (furthest forward), and two go to a pivot (right under the parts tray). The 3rd spring...
The Piper FF has one, it can't be making _that_ much downforce...
Replay has been good for me. Contour didn't work out.
Dave, thanks, I'll do like John's doing and pump the air out of the tube.
I guess it's a good thing I decided against being a physics major!
Anyone actually get this to work? Here's what I've done so far:
Bought a 0-15"H20 pressure gauge
Stuck it on the end of a metal tube
Found my tallest beer glass
Filled it with water
...
Thanks, I'm in!
Ah: Apparently they have the location information wrong, because if you put the COTA zip code in the search field, you only get a HPDE event later in the year.
Link??
FWIW, Group 2 (FE,FF,F5,FV,S2) at PBIR this weekend had two 23 lap races, 2 25 minute and 2 20 minute qualifying sessions, and we had no red/black/double yellow flags. Very few local yellows. ...
Google's for the young kids. 'Old timers' use:

for engineering information on belts. I'm pretty sure my drive belt used to be a Gates GT2 of some spec or another....
I've always thought an SR8 would have a pretty good soundtrack.
But 1500 lbs of downforce seems pretty optimistic, doesn't it?
Do you need fenders?
Also, I think most harnesses aren't DOT legal. I think you need to have a single orange/red release button or something.
Man, if I could drive my FE to work, I'd have to...
thanks for the explanation!
Out of curiosity, what is the theory behind raising the ends of the wing? I thought part of the point of a high nose was to get more wing more ground effect...
When I first got into an F5 I was amazed at what ~30 years of engineering and ingenuity on the part of the chassis builders can do to turn 4 pieces of rubber shaped like hockey pucks into a working...
As another one of the seemingly many F5->FE drivers, I have to also say that the carbs/clutches didn't seem like an insurmountable obstacle to being fast. (Not that I actually got there.) I figured...
I like the dual push-rod arrangement in the suspension too.;)
So I'm not a real engineer, so this is a question, not a suggestion: aren't all those bent tubes hard to manufacture and weaker than straight ones?
Looks sweet though!
What software are you...
So does anyone do standing starts with mixed run groups? That would seem "interesting".
I can't make the contour last. It only worked for 2 sessions out of 10 last weekend. :( When it does work, it takes beautiful video, but I think they're designed more for the human powered x-games...
How about either stock ECU or unrestricted carbs. Then people don't have to worry about having to spend $17k on an ECU, and you'll never run out of engines. :D
Just to offer a counter-opinion: Don't chase bad tires. It's kinda like having a $4000 guitar and not keeping fresh strings on it. It will still sound like cr@p. Regardless of how much rubber is...
I don't have a dog in this fight (being a spec racer and all), but I really don't understand this whole "racing is about man and machine" romanticism. To me, the truth of the matter is that racing...
Race-Technology's DL-1/Dash3 combo is economical, but you pretty much have to be an engineer to use/maintain it.
As someone who had to go through a driver's school in an F5 running in the same run group as SM, I'm with the other cowards who wouldn't want to be out there with the tin-tops. Your eye line is...
If you're looking for roomy, FE and FM are great choices in the formula classes. Not quite as fast as FB, but not slow either, and there tend to be more people to race against.
Doing nothing but the tire/wheel change I was able to PAX near the top at local events, reliably getting FTD assuming an F125 didn't show up. I even took home a trophy from a National Tour event. ...
I only raced F5 a short while so some other people can probably fill in a little more, but here are a few quick answers:
1) The "formula" for the class allows for sports car "noses". Same set of...
I don't know what a Boxter S is going for these days, but an Elise can be had for pretty cheap these days (and I'm trying to sell one, so I know). If you want a great stock-class autox car, the...
Ouch... Eric, hope you're doing alright...looks painful. :(
Here's my basic understanding -- which includes no secrets... well, ok 1 secret: buy a car from a guy who no one can pass on the straights, and get him to go over what per-track changes he does when...
The go-to book on all this (and it isn't too thick) is the Aaen one... worth reading. The standard low-to-high ratio is 4:1. I'll let people who know better answer the other questions. :)
I think that trapezoidal part is on a pivot where it attaches to the frame. (Although I could be wrong)
I'd give F5 another thought. Although the suspension seems simple, and is certainly made from cheap parts, a large degree of ingenuity has gone into actually making those rubber pucks do useful...
And to further clarify, I think the idea is to have them run/homologate as an FS, but race in the same race group as F5. Correct?
Nice looking chassis, BTW.
While you wouldn't be competitive in AM, if you keep the 2-stroke, you'll be competitive in FM. Always a good idea to read the rule-book _before_ building the car... I learned that one the...
Yes, the crush box is part of the F5 rule set.
