Is there anyone from the northeast going to the Majors at Road Atlanta in March. Looking to get a small package to FV driver.
My local FBO is fine with selling it and even suggests stopping by before winter to fill up my mowers, garden tractor, tiller, etc...
I Dynoed and repaired a set a few years ago for a friend and bought the last shaft Penske had. At the time Stimola (Joe's son) had some, but other than that I think they are gone.
The bus steering dampers have exactly the same bump/rebound curve... The bump curve is very close to what a black Penske FV shock is, but the rebound is different
Ed,
I just did the turnpike calculator for PA.. when I go to Pittsburgh international, I get on in Somerset and off at New Castle.. it’s the same amount for 3 or 4 axles... my dually is rated...
Years ago I had a work trailer that was low and after few years of bumping my head I went to one that I could stand up in. My old race trailer had a ceiling height of 6'6" and it was great. My new...
You had to expect something was going to change because of the effect of Covid on sales.
Brian
Not sure Covid figures into Continental Sales figures for FV... If there were 300 Vee...
It started out as a Bobsy Vanguard,at least that's what the owner said a few years ago... It was up for sale for an ungodly amount of money..
Brian,
The added maintenance would be optional..If there are those that want to go back and forth between widths, it's their choice
Greg,
Actually I was kidding, but after looking at the responses I've changed my mind. There will always be those that will spend thousands of dollars on .95 HP or .95% reduction in drag and...
Increasing the front track width by 1/2" would be an increase of .95%. If memory serves me right increasing the track width allows less weight transfer. Not sure how much weight transfer we have...
Ed Womer gave some great tips. If you use gelcoat mske sure you use the proper gelcoat for the resin you're using. Most gelcoats you see advertised are for polyester or vinylester resin and you must...
No one is driving a wedge...except SCCA... Disk drake talk has been around for years and all the majors guys said they didn't want it. The Challenge Cup made the decision to go to disk brakes and I...
This from Tire Rack:
Using tires in competition or on a track negates it's warranty, but manufacturers will make exceptions case by case if they feel the issue isn't something that should happen...
So what's the tire, what's it cost and how long does it last...?
This post just goes to show you can never please anyone.... There was a group trying to schedule a 55th birthday party and had NO luck..It's now the by the good graces of the VDCA that there will be...
I believe we are the only Vees in the WORLD still using drum brakes, so most of the problems raised here must have been addressed...
Sherman, it was great to have you make the trip, hope to see you next season.
Al
I ran a Shorai for three years with no problem. I purchased a new one last December anticipating the January races in Florida. I was unable to go, so I put the battery in storage mode. When May came...
You can use a cable, it's been done in the past. You can also use a spacer inside the damper, between the piston and the bottom of the damper. They make droop limiters for the inside of the damper,...
Discontinued..we now have the R55 only, kind of like a backdoor spec tire
and they are nicely done pieces...
Now that you mention it, it was a bit more rebound than the damper. I once saw Jim Kearney finish second in a hotly contested national with one damper dangling from the shock tower...then again Jim...
or if you're just figuring things out and don't want to spend much....VW bus steering dampers. Formula Vee used them for years until everyone thought you needed to spend more money. Bump and...
and people have wondered for years why the nickname is the Secret Car Club of America...
You go a lot faster without using brakes...

I came across this ad from a 1967 Sports Car Graphic magazine....Perhaps we should find a recapper.....
I think Greg is spot on, but just to be a PITA I'll play devils advocate. If the spec tire for Formula Vee does remain competitive for 4 or 5 weekends that would be great for the competitors, not so...
Brian,
What car do you manufacture?
Your second statement explains everything about you. Here is the opening paragraph of the SCCA Formula Vee rules. Pay particular attention to the last five...
So Brian, What positive actions have you taken to promote Formula Vee racing in the United States? Surely it couldn't be the introduction of the "Monster Mani" that has caused so much controversy and...
The cost of entry fees may be equal, but there are other things that decrease disposable income.. so costs are important..
...
Chris is right about tires and entry fees. I was getting some welding done on my car at a local fabrication shop that builds and repairs late model dirt cars. The Vee was an oddity and there were...
For tires, maybe someone should get Hoosier to build FV tires in their harder compounds and see how that works. It will be a ton less painful than switching to radials might be.
There...
On and on it goes.... Will Continental AG buying Hoosier have an effect on Formula Vee...? I think down the road it will be like the Goodyear experience. Just for laughs I looked up the yearly gross...
With the purchase of Hoosier Tires by Continental AG, it may solve the spec tire debate. Hoosier is no longer that aw shucks down home family tire maker that wants to keep everyone racing. They are...
This is something that I've posted a few times and it still make sense, but then again this if FV....
A few years ago (yes this tire crap has been happening for a while) I bought a set of...
I need to look back at those posts, but I thought it was 70% wanted a spec/alternate tire not specifically a more durable slick..
When I started I bought an open tilt trailer that the manufacturer modified slightly so it would fit the Vee perfectly...It was around $1500 in the mid nineties..worked great except You need to load...
Thanks to the Challenge Series, promoters, sponsors and competitors... I was able to make three weekends and that was not enough. I had two good weekends and a dismal weekend at NJ, but never...
AR= $550 in the Northeast
This is coming from someone that Has worked on Formula B, Can-Am, Trans Am and a Runoff's winning production car, plus has been racing Formula Vee for 40 years... a very impressive two-cents
You can look at technical stuff till the cows come home and you get as many takes on tire performance. There was a reference to Paul Haney in reference to radials being easier to drive on. In one of...

Mike,
So why is not OK for the majority of the class to want a tire that lasts three years, but the front runners you speak of don't. Is it because your tire bills are much less than average?...
Why are some so focused on performance difference? Yes the slick has more grip and you get quicker laps times, but who cares if everyone is racing on radials...? Every FORMULA VEE group around the...
Carroll Smith said that a race car is anything you bolt a race driver into... what Carroll thought is good enough for me....
Which track are we using?
I thought that a spec tire was a great idea three years ago so I bought a set of Falkens and went to Canada. They're great, you just bolt them on and go.
Forget all this talk of re-...
Brian, Go to post #29 for the cost comparison
