My brother Pete and I will be there.
Thanks for the advice guys. I am going to convert my car.
Stan - do you have all the parts needed if we decide to convert my brother Pete's car?
My car chassis #20 and my brother's chassis #9 have the old-style double push-pull cables to operate the shifter. In 7 seasons of racing, we've each had 1 failure.
Later cars went to a much...
I broke a spark plug in my GSXR last year.
As a last ditch effort, I was able to remove it with these short/non-tapered EZ Outs:
Tight-Clearance Extractor Sets

This:
On old-style thin center wheels, the bolts will stick out 1/16" or 1/8".
I first heard about this 3 years ago; my brother's car is chassis #9 and mine is #20. His car has 4 wheels out...
After swapping out parts from my car to Pete's, we isolated the problem: rotor & hat assembly.
What threw us for a while was that with 8 brand new rotors and 4 brand new hats, it STILL vibrated. ...
Rennie,
That is a nice gesture.
We dropped Pete's car off at Eric Lanbein's shop yesterday.
The next member days at NJMP are:
Fri June 26
Sun July 5
Thurs July 16
Yes, we ran my car, then swapped my wheels onto his.
Yes Blair, we have two Stohrs. Thanks for the suggestion.....but I hope you are not right! I had not entertained the problem being quite that severe.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
We were not able to diagnose the problem so my brother sat out the race.
We had the shocks tested and they are OK, so we are calling in the...
We tested both of our cars yesterday at NJMP Lightning in preparation for the Regional. My brother's car has been plagued with a vibration under braking since we bought it; sometimes it is better...
James,
I believe the studs you are referring to are these (recessed inside the sprocket):
This is a notorious weak spot on the Quaife diff due to the bolt circle being too small. Some guys...

Mike,
They are so cheap, you should just buy new ones.
I recall the front calipers were $150 each at Summit.
Doug,
Last year my brother and I used 16/46 gears in our 1st gen Stohrs (22.0 x 9 rear tires) which is pretty long - 12,300 max at end of straight - very conservative gearing.
I switched to...
It is likely that some OEM race ECU's are not going to be ideal for FB. For example, throttle by wire.....I do not think FB needs this level of complexity.
Glenn,
Yes that is good advice.
Rilltech suggested an easy way to prime the oil galleries:
While the engine is upside down (Harbor Freight engine stand works great for this) and oil pick up...
For the record, I look at current engines costing $2500 for a core plus $2500 minimum for a rebuild = $5000. Of course reusing throttle bodies, wet sump pan, harness, fittings etc.
This afternoon...
Brett - I would consider getting a new car to replace my first generation Stohr, but I am reluctant to do so until the engine issue is resolved, specifically the next engine of choice after the 07-08...
I agree that it is time for an open ECU rule.
Philly Motorsports spent a lot of time trying to crack the Honda ECU as did some people in the Stohr camp with the BMW. Apparently both have been...
I had never thought of that. Great idea.
Would is be possible to pressure test the ENTIRE oiling system in situ to say, 100 psi? The hoses, the hose connections, the oil cooler, oil filter...
Great turnout this weekend for FB, the highest number of cars in the race group.
I'll try to take pics of each car.

12 cars registered so far, plus at least 4 others awaiting so min. of 16; a great field!
What hotels do you guys recomend?
This inspired me to sign up. My brother Pete is in as well so we should be at least 12 cars!
We are 90% sure to be there.

Speak for yourself - I am the white car in front of the camera car - glad I was not runned over.
I really should have practiced a standing start.....
Keegan - does the Halltech ECU offer an adjustable soft rev limit?
I agree 100%. Open ECU rules; limit RPM.
We need to open up the supply of new engines.
There are 8 BMW S1000RR engines on ebay right now listing between $2500 and $3850. They cannot be made...
Many people tend to buy whichever chassis is winning the most, but there is a lot more to a correct decision than that, starting with the fact that the driver is such an important factor.
Back in...
Blair,
My brother's car is chassis #9 and is set up per your picture.
My car is chassis #20 has the updated coolant tank and so avoids the crossover pipe.
Here is a pic of the updated Stohr...
Blair,
My brother has an earlier Stohr that has a coolant pipe layout as you described; I have a later car that has relocated the coolant lines to the left side of the engine. Stohr makes an adapter...
Tim,
That is a very reasonable suggestion. Let me discuss with Pete. You guys were great to race with at the pro race at NJMP.

Blair,
There are 5 grease nipples on the diff; 3 are in the center of the spool and are easy to grease. 2 are on either side and I have not been able to access them with the diff in situ; they are...
Indeed it was an ugly ending, but we had 12 FB's at NJMP.....it coulda been so good!!!
Agree 100%.
I am not convinced competition adjustments are in order at this time; we can deal with it later if necessary.
I do think that the ECU rule needs to be opened up immediately to...
Keegan,
May I ask how much the Haltech ECU costs and how much effort and dyno time is required get it set up for your car?
Thanks.
Ivin
Wren, I think you are merging two different topics.
1) Limiting FB power might or might not need to be addressed. IIR or RPM limits sound like intelligent ways to control power escalation.
2)...
Agree 100%. We need to get some newer engines running in FB.
Wow!
Wet or dry sump?
What max RPM are you using?
I heard the electronics are extremely difficult to defeat...can you share any info?
Good price.

I agree K7/K8's are harder to find.
I have had good luck with WTB ads for wrecked bikes in craigslist.
2 weeks ago I bought a nice whole 2008 with 4000 miles for $1500.
After an oil & filter...
I had a great time at the NJMP pro race but I am heartbroken that a F1000 support race for the 2013 Montreal Formula One race will not happen. That would have been the event of a lifetime for me.
...
I especially love it, as I am the white car directly in front!
Thank you Ryan for not hitting me.
I must admit to not practicing a standard start....
I just reinstalled the original engine that came in my car; I ran it in 2010 and then had it rebuilt by Rilltech. It always ran hotter than I would prefer - up to 225*F.
My replacement never ran...
Welcome to the class. My brother Pete and I race Stohr F1000's at NJMP.
Any chance you are entering the SCCA Regional this weekend?
We'd be glad to help run your car.

Amen. The last "accomplishment" I need on my racing resume is to take out Dixon, JRO or Coop. I wouldn't have been able to hold my head up calling Wayne at the factory for parts if I had tangled with...
