Plus, the instructions.
These photos are from an original Garret Spindle Bolt replacement. Hope that helps!
Great video on Spindle Bolts and Maggie Bars.
I've personally have seen both prevent incidents from turning into major accidents.
I've done multiple laps at Blackhawk mid 1:24 in vintage trim with treaded Hoosier, fan and generator. If I switched to the Spec Hoosiers and keep my vintage trim, I'm guessing that drop my time into...
I race a Vintage Lynx B in the VSCDA (Midwest). Chris Cox/Noble motor.
Is this a reasonable budget?
- It's the low end for SCCA FV and Vintage FV
I've rebuilt VWs before, I assume working...
My Z-bar also has a twist in it and Fred Clark told me “The bars get the bend after you run them for a while, it’s OK to press the bend out, does not seem to hurt anything”

The Apex Pro might be a good option for you. Its a powerful data logger with a real-time grip model LED display and easy to analysis data on your smartphone. Last season I used the Apex Pro to set...
I'm running a shimmed stock/OEM Continental belt, with a non-gutted stock12v generator and functioning voltage regulator in VSCDA Vintage FV. I've never thrown a belt or lost a belt while racing...
Here's photo of my vintage LynxB rear shocks and Z-bar. You have the mounting points for the Z-bar blocks.

Small aero details, gives me ideas for Vintage FV...
Got the Pole with some real-time feedback from the Apex Pro.

A majority of the Vintage FVs in the VSCDA are running 12v batteries and generators. Sourcing 12v VW parts is easier and likely cheaper than 6v.
I'm a Vintage FV driver and my Lynx B is older than me. Disc brakes have talked about/recomended for 40+ years of FVs (VeeLine Newsletter). Last year it was tires and now it's discs brakes.
Why...
Someone will push the limits of cost, weight and performance of FV discs. Do you keep making new rules to keep up with development?
This post has nothing to do with the FV tire debate, just my experience with Vintage FV operational costs.
I've been running the Hoosier Vintage TD (44405 & 44408) for the past 5 seasons with...
VSCDA's Vintage Formula Vee is very popular series in the midwest, running the Monoposto's Vintage FV rules. We have 25+ car fields and only FV run groups.

Class name:...
What FV spares do you bring? Highest failure to lowest.
I'm starting to build my spare/parts bin.
Thanks
If "modern" FVs are mandated to run a spec box, the costs will increase across the field, plus a long history of FV drivers choosing the best gearing is lost in the rules. Thus, decreasing race ready...
How do you ship your FV motor?
Did you build a plywood/2x4 crate or buy a Hardigg/molded type case and modify it? Drawings, specs and photos are greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I've been running the vintage Hoosiers for 4 season in VSCDA and completely agree with bugcollection's recommendations.
Typically I'll start my cold pressures @ 23.5 psi F & 24.5 psi R for a dry...
It looks vintage, come race with us!
Can you provide a link?
Thanks
Here's a couple of my laps from VSCDA's Blackhawk event last year.

I'd suggest looking at how many active drivers are in your area (vintage & SCCA)?
My vintage FV club the VSCDA we have large fields of vintage FVs (30+). My SCCA region has (1/3?) of drivers, but...
SCCA 2015 Formula Vee Runoffs Race is up:

I suggest getting a copy of Jim Sching's "Getting Started in Formula Vee". It will answer some of your questions and give you a good idea of the expenses involved.
You may want to take a look at...
Good point about wheel to wheel contact and losing a metal valve stem.
I did find one rim with a .453" and 3 rims with .625" valve stem diameter.
...
Thanks, Ken. Right after I wrote the post I discovered the valve stems included both sizes.
I'm installing new metal tire valve stems on freshly painted rims. The hole diameter on the rim is .453" and the valve stem diameter is .625".
Can I drill out the rim hole diameter to .625" to...
Yes, me & multiple members of the VSCDA run the Hoosiers (44405 & 44408). Mine are two seasons old and still have plenty of racing life left.
Vintage doesn't equal slow and old, we drive our...
Is there any reason the current Vintage Vee Hoosiers (44405 & 44408) aren't being discussed as a spec option?
They last multiple seasons, fit the current VW rims and you can use them in wet/dry.
I'd suggest focusing on getting better antennas, commercial handheld radios (Kenwood, Motoral, ect) will have similar max power output of 5watts and have fairly similar range.
Take a look at...

Excellent recommendation to come out to Blackhawk this weekend (June 19 – 21), there should a few Auto Dynamics racing this weekend and a large field of 30 vintage Formula Vees racing. It's a great...
Could a D13 dual-shock, zero-roll like this one be converted to a Monoposto legal FV?
http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTA2NlgxNjAw/z/dK8AAOSwqu9VCYHV/$_57.JPG
Zero roll isn't allowed in vintage Monoposto rules, but check with your local club.
"The car must originally have been manufactured two springs
and two shocks as the supporting devices for the...
Great weather, a field of 30+ vintage FVs, made for a great weekend of racing!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uSNBbuNGCY
My opinion why the numbers of modern SCCA Formula Vees are decreasing has nothing to do with age/generation. Competition from other forms of motorsports, dwindling fields numbers and lack of...
Any updates?
Bump
The Necksgen's models (original & REV) have a SFI 38.1 certification.
After 3 Vintage Vee season with a Hans Pro 20, I purchased a lightly used Necksgen original. The overall fit & comfort of the...

$800 a set is pretty close to the cost of vintage spec Hoosiers, if they are similar to the old Dunlops in performance/durability they might be a option for Vintage Vee.
Do the Giti FV tires use the same compound as the Dunlops?
Will the Giti FV tires be available in the USA?
Before you make any major changes, this looks like a good runner for a local group right now.
The Lynx B is a desirable car in Vintage Vee racing. Since yours has the rear shock mounts under the...
Is there a reason don't FV & FST run together more often?
Butch's point is right on and doesn't just relate to FV, but most motorsports. I'm guessing many past/current drivers started racing because a friend or family member. They had them sit in a FV...
Vintage Vees are pre 1976 (new rule), working fans, fan shrouds, generator, 2 rear shocks, original bodywork, treaded tires (Dunlops or Hoosiers).
2014 Formula Vee Class Spec:...
The VSCDA race schedule for 2015 is out. Our club has a strong field of 25+ vintage Vees racing each weekend and a excellent Driver School for new drivers.
