For now, I'll just use FC tires on the 6" and 8" rims I have. If I ever get good, I might buy some 7" and 9" rims for the FC tires.

Did you find an advantage with the 8's and 10's? I assume wider tires to go with that. I guess a lot depends on how heavy your car is and how much down-force it generates.
Greg
I don't know. It's a 1994 A-Mac AM-6. I just bought it, I don't even have it here yet.
I imagine it's less down-force than a F1000. The front is just a splitter, I don't think it develops much,...
Steve, I have 6's, 8's, and 10's. But I would be willing to sell those and buy 7's and 9's.
How much tread does a P2 need?
I see people running tires with 8" of tread on the front and 9.8" on the rear, or a total of 35.6". A set of these bias-ply slicks (Hoosier 43314 & 43167) goes for...
They ran at Laguna Seca recently (10/20/2023). 20 car field.
Fastest lap was 1:34.402. That puts them between SRF3 (lap record 1:37.042) and FF (lap record 1:33.294).

The most exciting race of the entire weekend, in my opinion! So many gusty passes. It was a lot of fun to watch.

For me, this would be a reason not to race these vehicles:

Today on Facebook Rush Auto Works announced that they had finished their 100th car, and have sold over 200.
https://www.facebook.com/RushAutoWorks
I see that the price has risen from $29,000 in 2020 to $40,000 today. Still, a pretty good price for a new race car.
Here's a discussion from 2020.

This PFM was just offered for sale today. It's near you, in PA. $34,000.

They probably gave you P1 due to the engine. See the SCCA rules.
On Facebook you said it's a modified 220-HP 1340cc Hayabusa. Modified engines are not allowed in P2. In P2 you can have an...
Yes, I understand that you think that that row in the spreadsheet for the 494 engine is not valid.
What I'm telling you is: if you want to fix that data, it's up to you to lead a community...
OK, I just report what the various communities tell me for their class. I'm not a member of the F5 community. I've never owned or driven an F5.
Why don't you take it up with the F5 community and...
Yes, Majors/Runoffs level competition was the scenario I asked about. Specifically, I asked:
The discussion from the FV community is here. That number 53 hours is iffy, as I didn't get much...
FV: 60 HP, 70 ft-lbs, 1025 lbs with driver. Engine costs $1700 to rebuild, is competitive for 53 hours on track.
FST: 85 HP, 100 ft-lbs, 1125 lbs with driver. Engine costs $1700 to rebuild, is...
Thanks, Cory. That's useful information.
What was the price of the tires before mounting, disposal, and tax?
I believe that the compound that Hoosier uses in the spec FF tire is their R60 or...
Your math is correct.
I am not an F500 owner, I just started a conversation in the F500 community, and then put down in the spreadsheet what they as a group agreed to. As I remember, in the case...
In my opinion, F5 needs to address tire costs. $730 for a set that lasts only 8 heat cycles is a bit excessive, if you ask me. The spec FF tire costs about the same but will be competitive for...
Jay, any updates on this? It's been a couple of months...
Thanks,
Greg
That seems likely. In fact, now that you mention it, I think I remember them saying on Facebook that it was a GSX-S. I didn't realize there was such a thing--I thought it was a typo.
Wikipedia...
Curiously, Google photo search identifies the engine photo above as "kawasaki z1000 engine 2016". This is Kawasaki's touring engine, and it is spec'd to be 140 HP at 10,000 RPM.
I'm not sure why...
The unprotected fuel cells worry me too.
Yeah, I don't think it involves any effort or costs for the NASA Texas region. The car can run in class ST1 (lb/HP > 6) or ST2 (lb/HP > 8) (rules). I don't think the cars will get their own session...
Here's the video. And a photo.
...
I think it's the 11,000 RPM limit that keeps it to 145 HP.
It's a modified, sealed engine that they build in-house based on Suzuki GSX-R1000 parts. I would assume it's based on the current Suzuki...
Indeed. These guys come from a karting background. Makes me wonder what they know about safety, suspension design, chassis stiffness, and aerodynamics.
Marty, I think you're right. Minimum width in P2 is 63", this car is 59".
Also, a car with a modified 4-cycle 1005cc motorcycle engine must weight at least 1125 lbs. This car with driver would...

$29,000 seems like an incredibly low price for this, ready to race. So how do they make money?

Jerry, any updates on this project?
Greg
Too much drag, too much weight, not enough downforce for P1 or P2. I'm not sure what other SCCA class it would be legal in and competitive. None I suspect.
It's too bad that this one only comes in a 13x7. I like the looks. 9.9 lbs. Only $125! Maybe if the FST community placed a big order, they would make it in a 13x6.

Here's another 13x6 aluminum wheel. From Compomotive UK. 9.9 lbs. Too light? Price not listed, but I have $200 in my notes--not sure where I got that. In the photos, they actually show it on an...
From reading the FST rules, it appears that the most common bolt pattern is 4x4" or 4x101.6mm.
VTO also makes the wheel below in a 13x6. You can get it 4x101.6 for $154. Offset +13mm=0.51"...
FYI, VTO also supplies the 13x5.5 and 13x7 wheels for SRF. $154 for the 5.5". The 7" isn't listed on their website.
I imagine they could do a 6" for FST. They do their other wheels in 13x6, so...
