"FB" stands for Formula Bike.
Stan, the motor has a custom baffled pan. Using Motorex 10w60 oil $$$
Saturday my son and I brought the car to a new subdivision where no one lives. Here are a few observations:
It is such a pleasure to press the start button and have instant start. EFI rules....
Actually, this is what drove me away from the 2-stroke. Here is Lousyana the day starts at 60 degrees/70% humidity, and ends with 95 degrees/100% humidity. I was rejetting three times an event. Never...
Well, the poll won't let you pick two choices, so here are my votes: yes to 600s in F500 class and yes to converting to 600. I started my conversion 6 months ago and will begin testing on Monday.
Yes, A-mod or B-mod (with higher weight).
Thanks Jay. I stand corrected - I was under the assumption that fuel map adjustments were a must for these motors (I read too much sales literature  ).
In the interest of helping test...
Jay, although I appreciate the desire to keep costs down, the statement quoted above does just the opposite.
In order to make my engine perform properly with my exhaust and intake mods, I now have...
Thanks for posting this Ted. Looks like the proposed rules stated on this forum a while back which it seemed everyone could live with. The only EXCEPTION I could find was NOT allowing the use of a...
Wow! This is certainly encouraging. Maybe all my conversion work will pay off.:)
Thanks Craig. I have spent the past hour researching hot wire foam cutters and techniques.
Now, where to find foam? Will the pink stuff at HD or Lowes work?
So like West Systems would work. I used a lot of that when I finished my Cobra body. Easy to work with.
Dustin, I knew you would come through for me. Having built a few glass cars, I can't believe I totally dismissed that medium. Duh! Sounds like a plan.
I know my car isn't an FB, but y'all are the closest thing to my FB lite ;), so here goes.
I am thinking of building wings out of styrofoam-like material and then having them sprayed with truck...
Chuck, thanks for taking time to explain all the particulars for me. You have helped me in the past and I appreciate the continued support.
Thanks Craig, that makes sense.
At the risk of beating a dead horse, I wanted to give my final observation so others may learn.
The Solo rules deviate from the GCR in areas to allow older, non-competitive cars to continue to...
From the SoloRule Book for BM:
C. Sports Racers and All Open Wheel Cars Including Formula
Atlantics
1. May use any automotive based 2-valve motor up to 1300cc,
any 2-stroke motor up to 900cc,...
When my car ran as FM, I would usually beat the BM class and set FTD at most local/regional events. You are probably right about the weight disadvantage in BM, but 1020 is the lowest weight you can...
Thanks again Mark. It looks like I am good for FS and subsequently B-mod if I can get the weight up to 1020 with driver.
Scott, you bring up the second half of my 101 question.
So I send in the homologation paperwork and get approved. But what about minimum weight, wheelbase, track, etc., requirements? There has to...
Thanks Mark.
Absolutely amazing - both the body production and video production!
Run the GTM. ;)
Can someone give me the basics on the rules and/or car eligibility for B-mod? The SCCA rules aren't very clear. I have an F-mod car converted to GSXR 600cc power and really don't want to run...
Looks like A-mod for me, although I don't have a snowballs chance.....
Thanks for creating this area.
Man, that avatar looks familiar!
Having talked with Dean Gaerte on this issue, he has been kicking around a sealed motor concept for the mini-sprints for years.
To take it one step farther and on the border of ridiculous, why...
Lee, I'm not an engine builder either. But it is my understanding that the ECU is so finely tuned that ANY changes to the airbox or exhaust requires some sort of fuel remapping to get optimal...
Exactly Russ! I spent a ton of time researching the fuel mapping module since I can't easily throw an extra $375 down the drain on a gimmick. One day of self tuning easily pays for the unit compared...
I would think the traction control version would be illegal. That needs to be written into the rules. Plus, the AMA guys have some doubt as to its effectiveness.
I just bought the Bazzaz Z-Fi...
Darn! He found us!;) Just kidding Jim. Glad you are on the board; you have a wealth of knowledge to help this F6 thing get off the ground. Sorry I missed meeting you at this year's ARRC. I probably...
Mike, are your cylinders numbered backwards or are the 600cc and 1000cc motors opposite?
Are you making these headers for sale, or is it a one off product?
Jay, put me down for one of your first customers when this item goes into general production. I had received a quote from Dean Gaerte for one of his custom pans. $430 without baffles!
I knew you would say that. :p Actually the rear clip was cut off because I hated the old Zink engine setup. The fabrication you see was made for the snowmobile motor and 4-link conversion. All I...
I'm not Jay but I can answer this question. I am one of a handful of F500 owners who are converting their cars to 600cc power. I have successfully installed the motor in my 1984 Zink F440 chassis...
I watched Jay stand on the rear frame and bounce up and down. You would think he had 8" shocks on the car. There was an amazing amount of controlled travel for a puck setup.
First I want to thank Jay Novak, Dave Piontek, and George Dean for sharing their valuable time speaking with me. I was in absolute awe of the quality and deceiving simplicity of this car. It looks...
First I want to thank all of the FST folks who shared their valuable time explaining and showing me the FST cars. Special thanks go to Butch Deer, Robert Gudhe (sp?), Bob VanDyke, Greg Price, Ed...
To expand...a 600cc powered F500 would have to run in FS class. There is an effort underway in 2009 to allow the cars to unofficially run in F5 at the discretion of local Regions to compare the two...
Car was on display today at the ARRC at Road Atlanta. It was very well packaged. I will post more photos when I get home Monday.

I took this (and many others) today at the ARRC at Road Atlanta. I will post more photos when I return home Monday. What a great group of folks, and I look forward to learning more about FST...
My post above was an opinion to your question about competing against true A-mod cars.
Most local and even regional events have very few a-mod cars. So don't let the competition thing scare you...
You don't. At least not with a F500 chassis, no matter what size motor. The top Amods (i.e. Phnatom) have near $100k in development and production work.
Really interested in a new project. These FSTs look great! However most of the information links on formula-first.org are either dead or outdated. Does anyone have a list of current kit suppliers?
Billy, I may have to increase the tube size since Jay Novak has recommended using 1/2" heims for the two frame attachments. The rod ends will be used to square the axle in the chassis (remember we...
Rob and Russ, thanks for the comments. Yeah, the design is different from F1000, but I wanted thoughts from the experienced builders in F1000 without a bias towards the typical F500 setup. The design...
Revised again.
