I learned that what you don't know can only be learned by going racing. Ask all the questions you can think of. In the end you have to go racing to know. It's an all-in, everybody's different, kind...
Congratulations! You’ll have fun. One question that may likely determine your early schedule… Do you have an SCCA license? Driver schools seem to be less frequent these days. But there are likely...
Brad,
Your last post clears up what you're looking to do. Don't leave out Blackhawk Farms on your list of tracks. It's a blast (no super long straights to "rest") and better for the family/friends...
Brad,
As someone that races a lot at BIR, I have never seen an F1000 there. Maybe I missed it but I highly doubt there were 2, making it a race. I have not seen one at Blackhawk lately either but...
I know a guy with a MZR powered, sequential box VD. He is in Minneapolis. Races at BIR. PM me if interested.
Jim
I raced open wheel for 20+ years before folding and going SRF. Open wheeled cars are a blast. That said, the SCCA fields at BIR are slim. There is rarely a race going on. People are having a good...
I live in Bloomington MN and race BIR 3 times a year in an SRF. Fields are not particularly large for P1 and P2 cars. I'd say there are 3 regulars that run Radicals in the group with all the open...
If only we could get apexspeed members to respond we would know the truth. ;-)
I built the MRC Formula Firsts. I sold the car I had along with the molds for the body work a few years ago. My MissionRaceCars site is gone. Here is the new builder. I don't know if they still race...
At the risk of distracting from the discussion of this new suspension design, I am compelled to mention that FST cars seem to really come alive in the wet. I think it has something to do with the...
Good eye.
Jim
Did you listen to the interview? It is not the act of building a DSR as they did that was felt to be condescending. It was the comments of the interviewers and the interviewee. I thought the comments...
Was Weida driving a 2 or 4 stroke powered car? Not that either couldn't best a FF, just curious.
Jim
Thanks Rob for posting the results. Jared's best lap on the 2nd? Hmmm. Hopefully he will be ready to race.
Jim
Jim M,
You seem adamant about getting FST cars to lap as fast as FF’s and F500’s and I am not really sure why this is. Making the up-grades to get a FST as fast as a FF would bring on a cascade...
I hear this a lot on this topic. I'm all for modern tech but at the same time, I've raced in FST for 6 years and other than checking that I have full throttle, have never touched the carb.
Now...
Specifically, what have the reliability issues been?
Jim
You would have to go through all the rules to explain this thoroughly. It's not worth the effort for this thread. My point should have been more about how referring to the bulk of the formula classes...
These classes are allowed to have side pods that would make their cockpits the same as any 500. No rules says they can't. Having built an FST and looked into building an F500, the F5 wheelbase rule...
I think I am missing something. What is your point?
Jay points out that he built a car and went out and raced it in a 69 car field. I think if a guy could buy a nice $10K FVee and find 30 car fields, multiple times a year, a lot of people would join...
Congratulations Rob! And to Tracy and Jim too. It was good to see your name already on the trophy in victory lane on Saturday. The tee shirt says it all!
Jim
What a great weekend. Weather was sunny and 70's. The event was run very well, and unlike most rovals, I found Gateway to be a real race track! A big thanks to Nuveau Autosports for the hot coffee...
Here is a link to some information on the MRC scoops. See posts #38 and #40. It looks like these would fit your car alright.

Now Deanne will be really bummed she can't make the trip. My money is on Traci Clark!
Jim
We'll look for you guys. I am just now getting the D. Carr rebuilt engine in the car. It looks great but they always do.
Jim
Never think it's over! Too bad the weather was not the best, but it sounds like the racing was good. WG in the fall...classic!
Jim
I have seen this tool in action before. Ingenious! It really is a weekend saver. Smaller and more useful for the “group” than carrying a spare beam. Great stuff!
I have put baffles in my tanks to minimize foaming. I doubt they are optimized but I have not had any problems with a lot of oil ending up in the catch tank. I ran a Lola 540 for probably 18 race...
Just a bit more info I have found about oil tanks. I have tried 2 tanks in my car. The one on the left is the original desgin and the other is one I tried in an effort to make it easier to fit in a...
Overall it looks very well done. Good luck this weekend. I wish I was there to see it in person.
Jim
Nice work!
Jim
Greg,
The car looks like it is really coming along. It's a big thrill for me to actually see an MRC somewhere other than my own shop! Keep the pictures coming.
Red sounds good to me.
Jim
fvracer27, If you follow the link the guy quotes from you can see who wrote the original comments.

As for #4 and the vertical front...Aaron Ellis's car has angled fronts to the side pods and has finished on the podium at the Runoffs a couple times. Based on that, I think it is safe to say they are...
To Tiago and others of the same opinion,
I am a FST owner, driver and constructor. I think FV should do what is best for that class. I think the air cooled VW classes are linked together more...
Congratulations Chuck. The car looks good. Hopefully you'll have a trouble free weekend.
Jim
Coincidentally I too will be doing some testing. I have built a new, narrower oil tank that should fit into conversions more easily. It is smaller than the tank I have used and sold with the MRC...
I registered but I'm not showing up on the list yet. It might be that I registered with my long time number, which in fact has been already taken! Gall dang-it. That's what I get for not registering...
Congratulations to Doug and his whole crew! A lot of work, talent in the cockpit and a big dose of fun at the track seems to be the winning combination. You guys set the bar high.
Jim
Not quite like a current FF etc. but more protection than your average FV.
Jim
Given the posts here, the idea of FV adopting the components and rules of FST over a period of a few years to achieve a single ACVW class does not look like it could ever happen. The downsides have...
Gremlins! Damn.
Here is a 20+ page guide.

Response edited after asking myself what the objective really was.

Please post links to instances of this...
"Ever since I have been reading these forums I have listened to FST people say how stupid FV people are because they don't want to change..."
Jim
Where did you see the minutes?
Jim
Good work Gary. The car looks great. Can't wait to see it with the bodywork.
Jim
Does anyone know the likelihood of getting into the track before the 6:00 pm registration time on Friday? I have sent a note to the region but I thought I would check here too.
Jim
I plan to be there.
