Looking for information on my Caldwell D13 Formula Vee, SCCA Identity # 18-380. I know it was formally owned by Mike Sparks and he purchased it from Jerry Knapp. Mr. Sparks had the impression that...
Any experience or knowledge with Rimco 77mm piston / jug set part # 98-1946B? Claim to be forged pistons and extra thick cylinder walls. How about their machine work?
"Set" is four quarters?
Have been using a semi-metalic street shoes in my vintage Vee. How much better are the Carbotechs/Porterfield by comparison?
I'm pretty sure backdating a D13 is rather simple, just need the dual spring shock setup with fulcrum arms and horizontal links.
Adjusted for inflation (no pun intended) that's only $80!
I would imagine there is some weight savings with a rack. Could allow heavier drivers to remain competitive and others to improve side protection; ballast, etc.
2006 GCR:
17.21 FIREWALL AND FLOOR
"Firewall and floor shall prevent the passage of flame and debris into the driver's compartment. Belly pans shall be vented to prevent the accumulation of...
I used 18 gauge aluminum.
So a front droop limit can be used to limit roll and therefore allow a lower rate sway-bar: correct?
Would this have a similar effect as a sway-bar? I can imagine a situation where you would have a sway-bar of one rate until the weight transfer rolled the car enough to hit the inside droop stop...
"I found that you can tune the front of a FV by controlling droop. The car will respond positively to reducing droop."
In what way? What are the characteristics of more or less droop?
As a side...
What was the price on these?
40 hp single port heads with the square lifter landings are also wanted.
Unless the rules have change since I last checked, one must run a mechanical fuel pump which rules out an AS21 case. An AS41 replacement case is the norm.
Found this. Interesting read.

What are the advantages relative to their competition?
I imagine dry sump systems aren't worth talking about.
Steve,
My book lists .004 to .016 thousands of an inch for rod side clearance. Is there a better Number to shoot for?
Also: Are the over the counter windage trays like below worth buying or...
Steve,
You mentioned you "finally got a handle on it" concerning bearing failures. What did you find?
"I had my cranks nitrided and an extra .001" ground off the center main"
What was the reasoning for the .001 ground off the center?
Did you ever find what was causing your bearing failures?
"Depends on so many factors. Is the car a zero roll? Many vintage cars are not zero roll. The more caster the more cross weight that is jacked into the chassis. Of course this doesn't happen if the...
I'm going to throw this out there and see everyones opinion. What if everyone started taking our cars out to local Autocrosses and let others drive them. I know there is an element of risk but I...
Like what was already mentioned, safety issues are what separates vintage from current specs. Check the SCCA GCR book for current safety issues and be careful of "add-on" roll hoops used on many...
Would certainly explain the guard on my vee. Must weight 10 lbs. of more!
Couldn't tell you about the Vee, but with my Spitfire (and I assume any swing arm rear suspension), roll resistance must be minimized. Tried coil-overs once and the handling was terrible. Have you...
Thanks for the pic. Do you know if this was a factory option or aftermarket. Also: not to side track this link but do you know what the difference was between the standard D13 and the D13s?
Can you post pics of the Diaper?
