What if I enter the runoffs in whatever class (even doorslammer) with a very sticky tire (you decide which would be best) with one groove down the center and call it a rain tire?
Are there specs...
Well, I hope they don’t spec a rain tire to fix the loophole because I just bought a brand new set of Hoosier rains and if they specify Goodyear rains that will be bad for me.
I don’t normally...
Somebody was running a tire other than the 470 compound? Who was that? Running the soft GY tire?
If you go with disc brakes, even with rear floating discs, you need to make sure your axle splines are not bent, I ended up buying one good used axle from Dietmar that was pretty straight and a new...
I run avgas in my Honda 2k generator because it won't go stale between uses - however it will foul the plug if run for some time. LL is not very low lead. I buy it locally for about $4/gal.
With floating rear discs ($200) and shipping to WA, $3028.00.
Disc brakes from Speedsport Engineering installation page on my website: http://www.jimphoenix.com/new-fv-chassis/new-fv-disc-brakes/
its truly amazing zing how nice the pedal feels, literally...
a nationals level driver I know told me you're not going to buy a nationally competitive FV for less than $15k and likely more than that.
Not sure a rebuild on a runoffs motor will only be $1500,...
i built a new chassis last year, re-used all of the parts from my Lynx, except the chassis. Cost was $1000 in steel and aluminum (belly pan) including welding wire and tri-mix. I fabricated a new aft...
The drums are much less likely to fail in the manner of the original drums. A number of improvements were made. I'm not aware of any of Pare's drums suffering cracks or failures - have there been? On...
Excellent Steve, this is very cool. I gave my copy to a new Vee racer a while ago and I've been missing it ever since. I really appreciate you doing this, that book is a wealth of knowledge!
3rd and 4th, at some tracks like the ridge and Spokane, only down to 3rd twice. At the end of the long straights in 4th, I'll see 5500 at most.
I vote yes for allowing steering racks.
You're right, I ordered one.
Yeah, up here in the world of rain, it's tough to see rain lights in the rooster tails. I found the best solution to visibility in the rain is to be in front :ha:
I had the problem, bought the filter from Pegasus, problem solved.

Dietmar Bauerle can help you with most any question you have about your engine and carb. Everything I know (not much) I got from Dietmar. He answers emails, texts phone...
Mike Palermo makes a round brass ball that works very well in the FV carb, $25 plus shipping typically. Contact Mike at: fveeguy at yahoo.com
The brass ball weighs 12 to 13 grams, so float height...
Sounds like a sunk float, check your float for gas inside. Palermo makes a nice brass ball float.
I'm using a Shorai LFX24A3-BS12, Just under 4 lbs. I think, works fine.
Up here in conference, the FVs run in group six with the sports racers and the fast FL cars, not in group three with the FCs and FFs and FMs. That causes very high closing speeds when the stohrs and...
From formula vee.org: The standard Pertronix unit is the 1847A for the 009 distributor.
Look at the wires inside the distributor, the pertronix are known to have a problem with the wires rubbing against the shaft and shorting.
In the photo of the Checkmate, it appears the shocks have data acquisition pots? And a mass airflow sensor in the cooling fan inlet? That is some serious stuff!
Thanks for those photos - those rear suspension designs appear to be very far advanced over anything I've seen so far. Very interesting and complex.
Some of those Aussie cars have an interesting rear suspension arrangement, looks like pull-rods? Anyone have photo details of what they look like close up - in full disclosure, I'm looking to steal...
Thanks for the info guys.
What are guys using and where is the best source for a FST steering rack and disk brake kit?
Kinda like this... Before I removed the cable.
Formerly to adjust the ride height, no longer installed - apparently not needed as removing it has produced no ill effect.
Thanks for fixing the photos Bill.
Troy, see photos, you can find the upper shock bolt at a good hardware store, the lower bolt, as Ed Womer said, is a bolt, drilled and tapped to screw onto the existing shock mount, it's not hard to...
Lawrence,
Look at this Womer, if Chuck still has it, it's a darn good deal - not too far from you.

I still have my Edge 540 hat from the factory (in Oklahoma) I visited in 2004. I've inspected a lot of airshow aircraft in my day job and I find the Edge to be a quality machine. In the hands of a...
Yes, that Jungmann I rode in did snap rolls that popped my eyes out! What a machine - truly a point and shoot aircraft.
Jungmeister - cool as well, very classic, but never got a ride in one. I...
A Showcat or a Pitts M12?
I got a ride in a Bucker Jungmann many years ago - that was exhilirating!
We're lucky up here in the PNW, ICSCC races are typically around $300 for the weekend, 1 practice, 2 quals and a race.
Yes, I'm a member, specifically so I can have input to the rules. Conference follows SCCA rules for FV (and others like roll cage rules). Plus maybe someday I'll run the local SCCA races.
I did not receive a survey email; I did send in a letter. But I don't race in SCCA, only conference - maybe they sent only to active SCCA racers?
This is interesting, I just added up my average weekend costs and came up with similar, but different numbers. Reason for difference is that I only added up my actual weekend cash outlay, not...
So, if my 1200 case is truly an original, how old must it be? 30, 40 or 50 years old? When was the last 1200 case poured?
Yes, saw one three years ago at the Majors at Pacific Raceways in Seattle, I believe it was on Miles Jackson's SR, but may have been a different car. Had the clear 45 degree ductile overload ridge,...
I'm interested in that engine for $1k, would you be willing to share the source or advertisement? A new case alone is around $900 unless the market has changed in the past year.
Send those to Dietmar, I did and mine are nice and tight, no play. But call him first for details.
Redline MT85
Replace the fuel lines, mine were old and sprung a pinhole leak that shot right on to the header pipe, lucky I caught it when I did.
Yes, do what the Frog says - I have parts I'll never use that I would give you just to see you successful in your racing passion.
Go to wwwformulavee.org if you haven't already - lots of good...
I believe SFR is still spec American Racer. I run ARs because I'm a novice and there are many seconds I still need to find before I need the seconds from Hoosiers.
That's a cool looking FV, I like the body style, like an old Cooper.
I've considered making the diagonal upright foldable to make it easier to store during transport to the track. I think it can be done by hinging the lower attachment points of the two diagonal...
