To clean the case from all of the crud in the oil galleys and other places.
My dad is looking for suggestions on a hot tank solvent. For his 40 years in the VW business he always used a chemical called Panther (made in TX) mixed with water. That company is out of business...
After being out of Autocross since my son was born, I was getting ready to get back in, and bring him along in the Kart program. Now with this announcement, I have to decide what the next step...
Wow! That's gotta be a great adventure for the school. Look at the sticker Goodyears!
IMHO, this car needs to be set up for autocross. Put a stock, or mild overbore dual port (1641) engine in it,...
My guess is, by referring to it as a SoloVee, the car is probably already built beyond the Formula Vee rule set. The SoloVee rules already allow for large tires, and engines up to 1915cc with a...
Vs Chico seems to be a version of the Citi Golf, a version of the mk1 golf (rabbit in the us). So I would assume they are running the watercooled 4×100 bolt pattern. They do look like the old 9.4in...
If I had to take a wild guess, you seized the small crank bearing, the one that is a full circle behind the crank gear. I did the same thing, engine running good, warming up, then stopped cold.
The relief valves are in the case. If the car doesn't have a belly pan under the engine it should be possible to pull the reliefs without pulling the engine.
Plugs are cheap, I'd put new ones in. They are never quite the same once you carbon them up. I have no idea what the plug of choice is for vee now, I always used W8AC but I was basically stock.
#7 is part of the accelerator pump. It definitely needs to be there. It however, is probably not the reason the car is flooded. I would agree it is a float issue or a bad needle and seat, or a...

Which engine and which carb? Are you running a mechanical or electrical fuel pump?
What snow? It's supposed to be in the 60s this weekend in western Pennsylvania.
There are lots of options for power in the 1600 acvw package. The 1200 is best left to the road racers.
Solo rules allow for up to 94mm pistons and cylinders (1914cc) from the stock 85.5mm...
I don't have any pictures with me, but I had 2 vees nose to nose in my garage with one nose raised so the other would go under. Depending on how the rear half of the chassis is built, you could drain...
If you intend to run it as is with the FV legal 1200 and skinny tires, just run it as is and have fun. You won't be setting any records, but you will still be working hard to wipe the grin off your...
A picture is worth a thousand words. Thank you both.
Looks like I have a project to figure out how to build Mr. Lathrop's assembly.
Again, the information is invaluable. I will give all of it a shot.
In the meanwhile, here is a picture of what I am working with.
Thank you all for the clear and detailed answers.
I did forget to mention I am running FF size tires, including wide rears in R25(B?) compound.
I am presently running an internal ARB of...
So I keep getting the idea in my head to abandon my current late 60s vintage solo vee chassis and build a new chassis from scratch. Currently the car runs 2 rear shocks and a z bar. I know this is...
I don't know the specific "tree" you speak of, but multiple stands like this could be fabricated to stack engines vertically. Just have to take into account the engine weight as a cantilever load....
An old trick my dad showed me on these engines is to pull the offending plug wire at the distributor cap and just let it sit on the hole, not pushed in. The spark will jump from the cap to the wire...
WOW! That is fantastic looking! Very effective use of the plasma cutter. That is fairly similar to the ideas floating around in my head. The use of a solid plate at the nose is a different concept...
Thanks all for the responses. Just a point of curiosity since the topic was brought up.
Out of curiosity, how much power would a generator WITHOUT a fan (such as on a type 3) or better yet a modern lightweight alternator pull from an engine? I am assuming the majority of the losses from...
Thanks for all the input guys. Mark and I aren't terribly familliar with Zero-roll, my solo-vee still runs twin shocks and a Z bar. (I am the guy moving the axles in the video)
I am helping Mark...
