My search for Bob ended with a call to Barry Strecker, who engineered many of the modifications to the car While Bob owned it and helped me understand some of the history of this particular Mallock....
Hi Folks,
I’m trying to track down Bob Schneider. He owned and raced a Mallock MK12 back in mid 70’s to mid 80’s. Also may have owned a company called The Sports Car Exchange in Detroit area....
The posts on the rear bulkhead are the static mounts for the shocks. Previously these were on the bell housing/oil tank. I think the height of the spar is about 8"
THanks,
Neil
Started building another car.
Using a lot of water-jetted parts this time to save on machining time.
Neil
If Mr Spitler is building the Desmo powered FB, I say bring it on. If the car gets homologation before any engine rule change, of course the car should be allowed to run.
If he's not building...
Hopefully the FB rules in the future will ensure that engines used are true production engines. I'd suggest something like 2 years on domestic market before being acceptable for competition.
Some of...
Looks real good Russ.
Looking forward to seeing more pics of the progress.
There's people who don't think that this class is going to last but with enough of us showing that conversions can...
I live in Southern California now and I've been told it doesn't rain here.
Been thinking the same thing lately. Any suggestions?
Neil
Car is back apart for a couple days so I weighed the transaxle.
39.5 Lbs as shown with shocks, spool, flanges, wing mount etc
Another couple questions for you:
Will the stock diffuser work?
Are you bonding a belly pan on the rear subframe?
Neil
Really nice work Jay.
What year VDs will this work on?
Do all the newer VDs have bolt on rear subframes?
Do you retain all the same A-arm and pushrod lengths?
Thanks,
Neil
Hi Rob,
I'll see what I can round up for pics once the car is back together. I had a bit of a digger during testing at Buttonwillow that took a corner off the car.
Testing otherwise went...
The owner who bought the RF89 from me did a bunch of bodywork and put some bitchin' atlantic sized dubs on it.
Neil
Mike,
The first F1000, the RF89 R1 went to a gentleman up in Canada. I think it's racing in F Libre in western Canada.
Here's what it looks like now.
Neiil
Hi Mike,
This is a different car. The first one was the RF89.
Am I the only one sporting the F1000 decal?
I think www.formula1000.com is still out there.
Neil
Here's a few more pics.
I'm also planning on being at the open test day at Buttonwillow on Friday May 18.
If you're there, stop on by and say hello.
I bought a cheap camera so if it...
Pics....of what I'm dealing with.
I'm thinking of just making the upper anti-intrusion bars from tubular CroMo but make them with a slight bend under the pushrod into a hockey stick shape.
...
Are there any guidlines for construction of anti-intrusion bars on the front A-arms?
Are they a requirement or just a recommendation for F1000?
Do they have to be tubular?
Do they have to be...
Hi Doug,
Thank you. I don't know specific weight but it doesn't feel any lighter than a late model R1 for example.
Neil
Excellent info, thank you!
I'd try California Push Pull http://www.push-pull.com/
I don't know if they do metric ends but they certainly could suggest alternatives.
I ordered a custom shift cable on a monday and it was...
The CVs are smooth, tight, appear to have had good lubrication, and no previous damage. Both sides of the car have identical heat marks.
Is this normal?
Outer CV is the same setups as Swift DB5 I've been told. Are the heat marks possibly from the original street car they might have been pulled from? Axle angle is about 3 Deg...
I suppose I could sumbit a request for a rule change to allow for twins to be bigger displacement to be competitive with current I4's but I don't even know how uncompetitive my 1.0l twin is anyway....
Gorgeous new gundrilled axles courtesy Doug Learned at Fast Forward Components and new aeroboots from Porter racing. I had broken one of the old axles at the machined circlip groove so I replaced...
No vids or pics yet. Just took the car out to a solo practice day to shakedown. Will have something up soon.
Had the RC51 Stohr out last week for a good time. Car feels faster than my R1 Vandiemen.
Neil
If I were to convert again, I'd pick any 1990 or newer VD FF1600 or FF2000 that was in the low $teens.......or a Stohr FC of course. Having bolt-on rear triangles is awesome to work with.
Tons of...
Hi Clark,
I will be using most of the bodywork however I don't know if I will be keeping the engine cover yet. The car looked fairly goofy with the tail on and I'll either cut a hole for the air...
That's the stock Honda dash from the RC51
Shifter installed.
Double shear mounts installed.
Sabelts courtesy of Roland Johnson here in Sandiego; surprisingly light belts if you're that weight conscious.
Is the chain guard rule for...
Hey Matt,
The car looks great. Where does one get pro coat? Does it set up with a flat finish greyish black or brown?
Thanks,
Neil
I'm sure my sponsor will pick one up for me.
Any idea on what a full race spec v-twin from Honda puts out for power?
....but it is a Stohr.
One of 2 FF2000 that Lee made.
Maybe Lee could chime in with a small history lesson.
Neil
Takes a lot of time to get from an FC to F1000 but finally this thing is on the ground
A couple new pics
...and it runs too. Always a relief.
Anyone who hasn't heard a late model Jap twin run with a race pipe...music
Something interesting; the throttle bodies are 62mm! A beer can will almost slip...
A bit more done thanks to Roland Johnson here in San Diego with some of the sheet metal work.
Plumbing Done
No doubt I'll be down on power but I'm building this car to be a bit unique. It will still be fast but I know I won't be running at the runnoffs anyway.
The next car might be a tripple, just...
A bit of progress.
Neil
Changing from clip style master link to a riveted style. What's the proper way to mushroom the pins?
Thanks,
Neil
I suppose an appropriately sized/shaped "fuel filter" with feed and overflow ports might be an approach to any rules stipulation.
Thoughts?
Neil
Greetings
My last car had an injected R1 motor and I chose to use a Mallory 4060 pump and it worked great with the exception of the one time with low fuel level and hard braking the car would...
Thanks Sean,
The rear triangles are bolted to the firewall so making up new ones to accomodate any motor is pretty quick.
A-arms will be mounted off the sides of the mock transaxle.
Just like my...
Here's the latest pic prior to boxing in mock transaxle.
BTW, not worried about being down on power. Not many cars will be showing up next Spring. When fields get bigger in 2008 I'll put in the...
Made a quick mention late last year on the formula S forum about this car I planned for F1000 conversion. Power is RC51 (a bit lower HP than current I4s) injected V-twin.
Rear transaxle will be...
