New cases are 4 bolt Rhino cases
Pinion bearing will be different from the ring nut style.
Front layshaft bearing will be a 35 mm retained with a grub screw /anti-rotation bolt through the side ...

You will take the MD . Subtract the Pinion head size , Than subtract you fixture radius of 2.355

The proper way to do back lash readings is off the 4/5 hub when all the hubs are stacked and tight...

Same thing for the Idler gear screw,,, Heat,
Chances are the screw is retained with loctite. Heat will break that down and open the spigot ,

You will need to heat that portion of the case to around 200 degrees F.
The case will then release the spigot .
Leave the idler on the spigot , Reach in with a welding glove and pull.

First gear will now be fixed.
So second will need to be hubbed

You will need two new Layshaft spacers for the larger OD of the layshaft .
Possibly a new layshaft nut . MK5 will be a 7/8-20.

Dog boxes typically are a bit noisey . But if it sounds like a box rocks banging around there is a good chance there is a bent tooth somewhere in the mix . Each gear needs to be inspected .
