I’m considering the purchase of a Formula Super Vee, and am wondering if there are any reputable companies that rebuild/refresh the engines.
Cheers

John;
It it is a Type-4 air cooled, Jake Raby
Not from racing but from his reputation in the VW engine rebuild world, second recommending Jake.
All I’ve heard is good — and we hear a *lot* about this topic.
I have a Raby in my "Outlaw Bug" .... 192 on the dyno . With an engine he built 12 years ago. He's better, smarter, and more expensive now.
Erik at Quicksilver can also build it to legal vintage spec.
That Bug could probably tow us around. ;)
Since you're out west, talk to Bob Morris in Orange County. He's run several vintage Super Vees including Dennis Firestone's. I don't have his contact info directly, but he can be found on FaceBook.
I should have specified Water-cooled.
Contact Jay Ivey. Ivey is well known for his FF Kent engines, but he also does excellent work on water cooled SV motors. https://iveyengines.com/
Call Colin at Techtonics, 504-821-0598, up in Or. While they don't do engines, they are a huge supplier to water pumper crowd, should be able to point to good west coast folks. Down here I understand Wentz (Sav. Race Engines) does them well, also would consider Rolin Butler (Cricket Farms) as a possible source. I've been doing my own...but expect to use Ted's dyno sometime soon to set Lucas Mech. injection up.
