Road Atlanta 2020
It was a great racing weekend at Road Atlanta. Fantastic weather, and a great track.
The FRP series continues to provide great value for the cost.
I know a lot of you think you shouldn't run with the pros. I disagree. Here are some of the advantages:
Imagine if you played golf and had a chance to play rounds with the likes of Tiger Woods, and he was offering suggestions to improve your game... would you turn that down to play with your buds on the local course?
There is so much great knowledge in the paddock and a willingness to help others.
The big pro teams bring tractor trailers full of of hardware, pieces and parts that they can make available to keep you on the track.
Usually Primus is on site to provides parts quickly.
Add to that, every weekend this year Quicksilver had personnel in the paddock providing help. This weekend Sandy assisted in everything from a Weber carb issue, to a zetec issue. That is a major plus.

So here's an interesting story.
I taught Marshal Aiken at drivers school back about 20 years ago. Marshal raced in FC. His son Porter was just a toddler.
Marshal's father Richard also raced in FC in the SEDIV.
Then in 2005 he created a race team and won the Cooper Series. A pretty impressive feat.
Last year I talked Marshal into attending the ARRC. Shortly later the Aikens bought a Piper/Fit. They did a few races at their home track, Road Atlanta with SCCA.
So last weekend they show up at Road Atlanta with a 20' trailer and no scales or pad.
Porter goes out and finishes 4th in his first ever pro race. Maybe the kid has talent? ;)
He has done a lot of karting, and works as an instructor at AMP.
They are unsure what they are going to do next year... FYI, a team has offered a F1600 seat, and another a FA test.

Another neat story from the weekend...
James Lee and his son Jon. A long drive up from South Florida to do their first pro race.
So what do they bring to the big show? A 30 year old DB6 with a Kent engine.
Competitive all weekend even with a engine with a wee big too much leak down. He could run at the front, but when he tried to pass he just didn't have the power. We need to see them back after James refreshes the engine.
The kid can drive. Finished a strong 5th in one of the races.
Apologies for the blurry picture. :(
