Aim Data Systems - Formula 3 steering wheel versus MXS 1.2

I recently purchased a PFM and I'm looking to upgrade the Data Acquisition system from Motec to Aim. One of the recommendations I received was to install both the Aim MXS 1.2 and the Formula 3 steering wheel; anyone else out there running the same set up. Is it too many screens to be useful. Anyone running just the Formula 2 wheel and wishing they had more or regret the purchase?

Would love to hear from people who have on track experience with either or both (also curious if you are using EVO4 or EVO5 in either situation).

Also worth mentioning I have already purchased the Aim smartycam.

I haven't been on track yet, but I have the v2 wheel and evo4 and it seems to be plenty of info on screen. From experience driving other cars with an AIM system, I don't have time on track to look at very much. Alarms, temps and laptime. Rarely change pages when driving.

AIM is not an upgrade from the MoTeC systems that PFM cars originally had. MoTeC is far more powerful (and expensive). That said, the AIM wheel paired with an EVO4 or newer provides enough for the average user’s needs.
I had AIM wheel and EVO3 on my FE and I was happy enough. I had MoTeC on my PFM and miss it now that I am back to AIM.

Before I express an opinion, curious why you start the question with the statement that MoTeC to AIM is an upgrade? :D

Other than moving the display from the dash to the wheel, what are you gaining/losing?

If you want to come take a look at my PFM with the Aim wheel and Evo5, you can. It is tied in with the Motec ECU, so I get all the data that I want. And Dave at Verocity was able to give me a nice credit for the Motec that came out of the car.

I prefer the Aim (I run the SmartyCam too). And I love the Formula wheel with it. The system just WORKS each and every time. I get all my info consistently and great video with the map, throttle, brake (whatever else you want as well).

I am not knocking Motec. The Aim to me, is just easier, great software (simple) and it is what my kids use in their karts. So just one platform that updates easily and runs on one laptop.
