New Drummond motor, 100 octane, Wow

My 13B last year was still making solid power despite having compressions in the 50-60 range. I decided to have Drummond rebuild the motor last winter. It had tremendous scoring in it and he was amazed that it still made great power.

So, I have a rebuild in the car now from Drummond. He recommended that I run 100 octane fuel because he feels that the overall quality of race fuel is better and that the burn you get is better for the motor. So my shop (Speedsport) advanced the timing to Drummonds rec. He also recommended that we plate off the OMP and go with premix which I am doing now (Red Line racing 2-stroke oil).

I am simply amazed at the power increase I am getting with this set up. On long straight I am getting about 3 mph and the acceleration out of corners is noticeably better. Loving it.

Do any of you run this higher octane set up? Is it even allowed in SCCA?

Pretty sure SCCA lets you run whatever fuel, as long as its not leaded. Sounds like you are a happy customer from the "Rotary Master"!

I ran different fuel a couple times, I certainly see his point about fuel quality. Race gas is much cleaner burning. Not sure I ever felt the speed difference. I mainly only noticed speed when I actually got the thing jetted right... ;0)

Thank you! We did indeed do a decent amount of mixture and jet tuning but I am still really surprised at the speed difference. I'm also about 20 pounds lighter but that doesn't explain these big jumps,...but I breathe better in the sweepers now!
