Very Basic FST Questions

[FONT=Calibri]2 Since I need a new fuel cell what is the recommendation for the size of a fuel cell to install, 3 or 5 gallons? [/FONT]

Welcome to FST Sam.

There are a couple of people in your area that can give good advice as well as this forum.

1. I don't believe there will be a difference in wheelbase. You do get 2 extra inches in FST.
2. 5 gallons is the way to go. The 1600cc engine is a bit more thirsty compared to a vee.

Sam there are two long term FST competitors in Cincinnati. I'd the free advice spigot is open.

I'm out on the West side of Cincy a little North of Harrison.

The ball joint beam has to change wheel base some. I'm pretty sure the "turkey legs" are longer. The ball joint beam certainly changes the track width as well. Its also a TON easier to set up than a link pin beam!

The 1600 engine uses more fuel than the 1200. You'll want a 5 gal cell.

Does anyone have a measurement of the space from stock beam back to the center of the axles when the legs are level on both a ball joint and link pin?

This is one of those measurements that is so hard to measure .... then project wheelbase from ..... when factoring in all the variables like ride-height, beam inclination, toe settings, etc.

My car was, 91 5/16 from the center of the lower beam tube to the center of the rear axle (rear measured at width of beam). The wheelbase was 84 3/16.

This was with 3/4" of beam angle, top of upper beam at 13 1/2, and 3/16 rear toe-in.

In looking at the Evolution frame in my garage (its not so easy to make this measurement alone) its 86 inches from the middle of the top trans mount bolt to the face of the beam mount lower bolt. Larry Campbell appears to have built a 3 degree slant into the beam mount on the front of the frame. Hence I measured from the bottom to get you the longest measurement.

This should be a rough guide. Feel free top come over and we take more measurements

The difference is minimal (if any at all). The Adams in FV trim was not right at the maximum wheelbase limit for FV, so even if you add two inches to the chassis for FST, you'll be just fine.

Thank you all for your input; I seem to have found the fountain of FST knowledge. I have much to learn.

As far as the fuel cell do any of you see a problem with using an ATL RA105 on the bottom of page 13 of ATL's catalog? http://www.atlinc.com/pdfs/Racing/20...g-web%2013.pdf

Perhaps someone else with more expertise can provide definitive advice. However, I'd bet the cell you mention is not SCCA legal.
