I switched to DRIVEN MTF for my gearbox, and since then, my Hewland leaks like Adam Shiff [just less selectively]. I have been using Hylomar, which is easy to clean off, but doesn't do as good a job at sealing as I'd like. RTV would probably stop the leak, but would be painful to clean up during gear changes. Is there a happy medium? Any ideas?
I've taken to using red RTV and make sure all surfaces have a very thin schmear of gear oil before reassembly. The RTV comes off very quickly with a dry paper towel - takes 5 minutes, tops. Never had a leak on a MK gearbox doing this. I don't know if other RTV;s behave the same as red - never tried it (superstition?). Always willing to hear other suggestions - that's just my current solution to not using Hylomar.
I use clear silicone. I have no leaks and it cleans off without too much drama
HondaBond #4 seals great, does require brake cleaner (the non-California kind) to remove it.
