Proposed Rule Change for PX cars at Super Tours and Majors

Please see my posting in the sports racer forum. The CRB is recommending that PX cars run with Big Bore sedans at Super Tours and Majors. This is an invitation to disaster. If you agree, write to the CRB.

PX belongs with the Big Bore sedans. They have no business being in any other group.

I won't attempt to answer for Fred, but what types of cars has PX been seeing?

Part of the answer is "Not many". I cannot find Super Tour numbers broken out, but 2020 Majors (including ST) numbers are here: https://www.scca.com/pages/majors-participation-2

In all Majors (including ST) events, a total of 11 PX entries. Usually 0; sometimes 1; 2 entries only twice (MSR Houston and Blackhawk, neither of which were ST events).

I can't think of a group they would be better to run with.

Wouldn't they have run with production cars such as those in their original endurance racing events? Big Corvettes and 911?

In the sports racer forum, that case was made. My response was that the drivers in those events (e.g., Daytona 24 Hour) are professionals who deal with the size mismatch on a regular basis. Here, we're talking about amateurs in GT-1 cars (for example) who are not attuned to having a relatively small, low car overtaking them in a corner. This simply is asking for trouble.

I wonder if MSReg would be willing to produce an entry report by class/vehicle.

In the SEDIV Regional series, we have one driver who attends most of the races and drives 2 cars. They are put into two different groups to allow him to do that. One is usually his FA (sometimes running in FS) which is in the P1/P2 etc group. The other is an ASR or PX which runs with the big bore cars. He is usually the only ASR. Over the years, there have not been any incidents with the ASR in the big bore groups that I have seen or heard of.

Don't the Prototype/Radical cars run in the same group as the big bore cars in NASA? Does their experience tell us anything?

In the 2020 Majors, all of the 11 PX entries were made by 5 individuals. The cars entered were:

• Radical RXC 600R (twice)
• Radical PX (three times)
• Argo JM-16 (once)
• Riley DP (once)
• Oreca IMPC (four times)

My boss runs a Daytona Prototype in PX. It absolutely belongs in the GT1 group. I wouldn't want to be hit by this giant thing .

Five entrants for 11 races. A rule in search of a problem? The one race I ran the steward moved us to f/sr group from big bore. No issues. Maybe just let the regions decide.

PX consists of high hp heavyweight cars that are intended to run in mixed class races with high hp heavy GT cars. 2500lb sports racers that in many cases have very limited outward visability have ZERO place on the same track as 1100 lb formula cars and sports racers. They belong in the Big Bore sedan group where they were originally intended to be when the class was introduced. Who the drivers are has absolutely nothing to do with it.
